MONTGOMERY WATER TANK
LONGMONT, COLORADO
6 ACRES

CLIENT: City of Longmont
COLLABORATORS: CDM Smith, Avocet Irrigation
STATUS: In progress
Sage Design Group collaborated with the City of Longmont and the CDM Smith engineering team to create a thoughtful landscape and screening solution for the relocated Longmont water tank. Given the structure’s visibility, the design focused on softening its presence while establishing a landscape rooted in the site’s history.

Inspired by the area’s former use as an apple farm, the planting design incorporates apple trees and complementary orchard species to reestablish a sense of place and connect the project to its agricultural past. For screening, larger and taller plant materials are arranged in layered groupings to effectively buffer views of the tank as the landscape matures.

The project required coordination across city, county, and state agencies, ensuring regulatory alignment and a cohesive outcome. Through this collaborative effort, Sage Design Group delivered a solution that balances infrastructure needs with a contextual, visually integrated landscape.
